Model Bridge Competition Sponsor

Ryan Biggs Clark Davis is a proud sponsor of the 2026 Model Bridge Competition, in celebration of the Capital District’s 46th Anniversary Celebration of National Engineers Week.

The Model Bridge Competition will take place tomorrow in the Bulmer Telecommunications Center at Hudson Valley Community College. The event brings together more than 100 high school students from across the region each year. Students in grades 9-12 design and build a balsa wood arch or truss bridge. Participants construct models using balsa wood, with components joined by yellow carpenter’s glue. Each model is judged on aesthetics, including design and craftsmanship, and is then weighed, measured, and tested to failure using a loading machine. The bridge models must be 400 mm long, no more than 100 mm wide, and no more than 200 mm high. Efficiency scores are calculated by dividing the maximum load at failure by the weight of the model.
