Project Update: Utica State Office Building Plaza

Ryan Biggs Clark Davis provided structural engineering services for the rehabilitation of an existing exterior plaza hardscape at the Utica State Office Building. The area is located on a cast-in-place structural concrete slab that forms the roof of the below-grade levels surrounding the main office building tower.

The old system of elevated pavers and roof membrane was replaced with a new membrane system, additional rigid insulation, and a cast-in-place hydronic (snow-melt) slab. Colored concrete was integrated into the design to provide visual interest and help frame the outdoor space.

Additional project scope included the repair and rehabilitation of areas of deteriorated structural concrete framing both in the main structural slab and in the perimeter walls of the courtyard/plaza space that retain the earth beneath the city streets surrounding the project area.
