Rensselaer Rail Station
Rensselaer, New York

A $53 million, multi-phased project that included a new station, parking structure, entrance road with highway bridge, and passenger loading bridge.   The building is a four-story, 67,000-square-foot station featuring exposed roof structure and a 130-foot clock tower with a 3-ton hand-crafted copper dome.   In addition to railroad related functions, the building also includes the city post office and commercial retail space.   A 635-space parking structure abuts the station, and the upper level is designed to support truck and bus traffic. A 34-foot wide by 125-foot long passenger loading bridge with enclosed escalators, stairs, and elevators provides access to both high-level precast platforms. The complex is accessed via a precast box girder bridge with cast-in-place concrete texas barrier. Segmental retaining walls are used to form the approach road embankment.   The project was the winner of a “2002 Award of Merit: Transit Project” by New York Construction News. Stracher Roth Gilmore was the Architect.
