Albany Molecular Research, Inc.
Albany, New York
Albany Molecular Research, Inc. had outgrown their previous corporate facility.  Hyman Hayes Associates, LLC, provided the architectural design to convey a strong corporate image and include additional employee amenities.   The 76,000-square-foot, three-story facility houses office space, a 300-seat auditorium, a 3,000-square-foot scientific library, a 200-seat cafeteria, and seminar rooms.  The focal point of the building, from both the interior and exterior, is the three-story open atrium, including an ornamental stair and glass-backed elevator.

RBA provided the structural design for the facility.  The building foundation includes a full basement with an under slab drainage system and waterproofing membrane.  The super structure is steel framed with composite floor construction and open-web steel joist roof framing.  Lateral resistance is provided by concentrically braced frames and reinforced concrete shear walls.  RBA also designed the hung light gauge steel stud and brick masonry wall system, the lateral support system for the atrium curtain wall, and the ornamental stair framing.
