Albany Medical Center Pedestrian Bridge and Parking Structure
Albany, New York
Albany Medical Center (AMC) planned a large expansion project which included an office building, a pedestrian bridge connecting the office building and the center, and a parking structure.  AMC entered into a design/build arrangement for a 1,200-car, 350,000-square-foot, precast concrete parking structure.  RBA was the structural engineering consultant on the project.  Envision Architects, P.C., was the project architect, and Clifford H. Quay & Sons was the construction manager.  RBA designed a specialized foundation system and provided technical input for the precast structure, which was designed and provided by Unistress and the Consulting Engineers Group.  The foundation system used 130-foot-deep, concrete drilled piers which were stabilized with slurry during construction.  The pedestrian bridge is an enclosed, 160-foot, long-span, open-truss bridge which crosses New Scotland Avenue and enters the hospital at the second floor.  This project received an American Concrete Institute Award of Merit.
